Public/Circulation Services Supervisor at Levy Library, Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai

Role Summary
Under the direction of the Manager, Public Services, the Public Services Supervisor participates as a member of the Public Services team to oversee the daily operations, activities, and projects of the Levy Library. This position will transition to support library staff on evening and weekend hours as the library operating hours expand in late 2022. During the evenings and weekends, the incumbent acts as the supervisor in charge of the Levy Library, overseeing supporting staff, facilities and security, and enforces policies for maintaining a scholarly environment in the Library. The incumbent will also serve as part of the interlibrary loan services team, supporting daily borrowing and lending services and serving as a backup for other public services areas as needed.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Supervisory Responsibility (30%)
Responsible for assisting the Manager, Public Services in the coordination of daily library operations and supervision of library assistants. Tasks include overseeing circulation services desk schedules, submitting library assistants time off requests, and fielding routine service-related questions from library assistants and other library staff.
Supervises and trains library assistants and evaluates library assistants in daily circulation activities, including but not limited to user support services, library spaces, equipment, and shelving maintenance.
In the absence of the Manager, Public Services, supervises library spaces and library assistants, and serves as the main point of contact for Circulation Services inquiries and/or issues.
Contributes to training materials. Instructs regular library staff in maintenance procedures, as needed.
Updates web-based circulation services manual(s) and LibGuides.
Monitors the Circulation LibAnswers support queue and answers or directs inquiries to the appropriate unit.
Circulation Services Responsibility (30%)
Provides coverage for opening and/or closing of the library – to include evenings and weekend operations as library operating hours expand in late 2022.
Monitors library spaces and facilities. Responds to any facility related issues and emergencies and contacts Library/ Academic IT administration, maintenance, and /or security when appropriate.
Performs all circulation services desk responsibilities as needed. This includes creating and updating library accounts, checking materials (books, reserve items, laptop computers, and any other circulating items) in and out, and handling small financial transactions.
Assist patrons in the use of resources and services in-person, email, and phone. Triages issues and inquiries to the appropriate units in the Library or Academic IT.
Assists with support of patrons in use of software. Troubleshoot and address problems with public workstations, equipment for loan, copiers, printers, scanners and other technology equipment. Refer problems to the appropriate next level, when appropriate.
Listens to patrons inquiries or issues; attempts to resolve these problems as appropriate.
Interprets Library policies to patrons and refers patrons concerns to the Public Services Manager and/or Academic IT Leadership.
Interlibrary Loan Services Responsibility (40%)
Oversee daily interlibrary loan services (ILL) lending operations. Process and respond to lending requests received via ILLiad and Docline for materials owned by Levy Library.
Performs maintenance and updates to vendor accounts in ILLiad to support billing services via EFTS and IFM.
Serve as a contact for users inquiries and issues pertaining to ILL services. Respond to interlibrary loan patron questions, issues, or complaints, endeavoring to resolve them in a timely manner. Respond to inquiries regarding account registration requests and the status of interlibrary lending requests.
Perform and/or oversee the processing of materials to send to borrowing institutions via courier or UPS as needed.
Assist in the maintenance of statistics and preparation of annual statistics on materials borrowed/loaned utilizing ILLiad, Docline, and OCLC WorldCat.
Function as a back-up for ILL borrowing operations in the absence of the ILL borrowing assistant.
Required Qualifications and Skills
Completion of undergraduate degree or equivalent education and experience.
1-2 years previous experience working in a public, academic, or research library.
Strong customer service and communication skills; able to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing, with a diverse population of students, faculty, clinicians, and staff.
Proficiency with computer applications including but not limited to office software (MS Office), web searching platforms, email communications platforms, and LMS/CRM/CMS type platforms.
Ability to work independently during evenings and weekends.
Demonstrated ability to identify, prioritize, and resolve problems quickly and effectively.
Ability to handle difficult situations with patience, diplomacy, respect, and discretion.
Preferred Qualifications and Skills
Experience supervising and coordinating team and scheduling multiple shifts.
Experience in circulation services and/or interlibrary loan services.

This position involves moderate exposure to normal stress and pressures typical of a department supervisory position.

About the Position

RESPONSIBILITIES: The Director for Strategic Planning and Assessment’s key responsibilities are:
Completing annual collaborative regional and national library assessment instruments as appropriate such as the Association of Research Libraries (ARL), Association of College and Research Libraries (ACRL), Association of Academic Health Sciences Libraries (AAHSL) and the Integrated Postsecondary Education Data Systems (IPEDS) surveys.
Developing an assessment ecosystem to support the Libraries’ assessment and strategic planning efforts.
Advising Cabinet members on assessment strategies for all aspects of operations, services, and administration of individual libraries and branches.
Providing semi-annual updates of assessment indicators demonstrating trends and the Libraries impact on the teaching, learning and research activities of university.
Providing training on assessment strategies and tools used to inform outcomes based, usability, and space utilization studies.
Evaluating, selecting, and using assessment instruments and tools to ensure an efficient and effective assessment infrastructure.
Providing assessment support for efforts to increase diversity, equity, and inclusion in library services and collections.
Working collaboratively with others responsible for assessment across the University and in the profession representing the Libraries on committees such as the Rutgers University Assessment Council on the Student Experience and the Big Ten Academic Alliance (BTAA) Assessment Committee.
This tenure track faculty position is a member of a team of librarians committed to providing first-rate public services to a diverse academic community. The successful candidate must demonstrate a commitment to continual professional development through scholarly research including publications, presentations, and participation and leadership in the work of relevant professional associations. This position may require working evenings and weekends.
SALARY: Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
STATUS/BENEFITS: Faculty status, twelve-month appointment, retirement plan, life/health insurance, prescription drug, dental and vision plans, tuition remission, 22 vacation days annually.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Required: ALA-accredited master’s degree in library and information science. Knowledge of current assessment issues, trends, and methodologies for academic libraries and archives. Prior experience with programmatic assessment in an academic setting. Demonstrated experience with design and use of quantitative and qualitative assessment methodologies and instruments such as surveys, focus groups, interviews; data analysis methods and tools such as Excel, Atlas.ti, NVivo, SPSS; and familiarity with current national assessment programs and standards such as IPEDS and ACRL/ARL statistics surveys. Proven ability to work independently and in a team setting to assess and set priorities and adapt to a demanding and changing environment in order to meet specific deadlines. Excellent interpersonal skills (oral and written) with demonstrated ability to establish positive and constructive partnerships with a diverse group of university colleagues. A demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. Must be able to meet the University’s criteria for promotion and tenure for library faculty.

QUALIFICATIONS

R. Barbara Gitenstein Library is a five-story, 135,000-square-foot facility that serves as an intellectual, cultural, and social center for the college. In addition to housing traditional library collections and services, the building provides 26 group study rooms, two instructional computer labs, a cafe, a late-night study area, and a 105-seat multi-purpose auditorium. Appointment and Application Information
Appointment: This is a full-time, 12-month, tenure-track faculty librarian position. Tenure-track appointments come with an initial contract of three years, with regular evaluations and the opportunity for renewal leading up to the tenure decision at the end of the fifth year. Rank and salary for this position are commensurate with experience: either Librarian 3/Instructor in the Library, or Librarian 2/Asst. Professor in the Library. Preferred qualification include:
-At least 5 years demonstrated administrative/management experience in an academic library environment, especially in acommunity college setting.
-Understanding of and significant experience in addressing the major challenges (including technology) facing academic libraries.
-Record of scholarship and interests in teaching/learning innovation.
-Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
-Demonstrated commitment to valuing diversity and contributing to an inclusive working and learning environment
-Ability to cooperate with others for the good of the institution

Dobbs Ferry Public Library Director Position at Dobbs Ferry Public Library

The Dobbs Ferry Public Library Board of Trustees seeks a new director to lead Dobbs Ferry’s vibrant public library following the retirement of its well-respected director. The new director will be responsible for driving the Library’s growth as the cultural heart of the community while ensuring that it meets the Board of Trustees’ vision of the library as a conduit for the pursuit of learning, growth, and human connection, accessible to all.
The Library has seen tremendous growth in recent years. It enjoys village-wide support through its variety of programs and services, a popular Children’s Room, burgeoning Teen Space, and diverse collection. The new director will be expected to continue this growth through the curation of materials and programming that meet the needs of the community, the maintenance and reimagining of the library space to best serve the community, and the leadership of the library staff.
In addition to leading day to day operations, the director will be expected to collaborate with the Board of Trustees, Friends of the Dobbs Ferry Public Library, officials from the Village, community organizations, and other stakeholders to ensure that the Dobbs Ferry Public Library is and continues to be a cornerstone of the community, welcoming to all.
The director should be knowledgeable in library trends, technology and its use in libraries, and be able to manage a facility and staff of 19 employees with an annual budget of $840,000. The director should be a proactive communicator, able to engage individuals, create partnerships, and advocate for the Library’s needs. The director should be energetic, with creative ideas for how to meet the library’s short and long-term goals, and the ability to meet those goals. Finally, the director will also be expected to implement the Strategic Plan, as approved by the Board of Trustees in 2019.
The minimum qualifications for the Library Director position include:
A Master’s degree in Library Science from a library school accredited by the American Library Association or recognized by the NYS Education Department as following acceptable educational practices
A New York State Public Librarian’s Professional Certificate
Experience in public or academic library leadership, administration and management with a minimum of five years’ experience working in a library setting.
