As the knowledge center of the College community, the Library serves as the gateway to the world of criminal justice and related fields. Boasting more than half a million books, periodicals, microforms, films and digital collections, the library integrates historical and contemporary materials to build a comprehensive collection and present a balanced view of the field of criminal justice. Our collections are an indispensable resource for faculty and students at John Jay and across CUNY, as well as scholars, practitioners and members of the criminal justice and legal communities around the world.
Through its collections, technology, physical and virtual spaces, and our expert faculty and staff, the Library provides students and faculty an inclusive and welcoming environment to support and enhance the learning, teaching, and research needs of our patrons. This includes supporting the College’s efforts to enact the Seven Principles for a Culturally Responsive, Inclusive, and Anti-Racist Curriculum and its commitment to access and excellence in higher education. POSITION OVERVIEW
Reporting to the Provost, the Chief Librarian will be responsible for the organization, administration, operation, planning, and evaluation of library services, physical facilities, collections, budgets, and the professional development and evaluation of faculty and staff.
As a creative, flexible, and intellectually generous leader, the Chief Librarian will
advocate for the Library’s value within the campus community and its critical role in furthering the educational mission of the College. The Chief Librarian will effectively navigate evolving academic, instructional, technological, and information needs of faculty, students, and staff to promote innovative and thoughtful engagement with the Library.
A transparent communicator and a collaborative partner, the Chief Librarian will provide strategic direction and vision for the Library, as well as facilitate the implementation of its core services and long-term plans. As the Library’s representative on College-wide and University committees, the Chief will also develop and support strategic relationships with stakeholders on campus and across CUNY.
Within a collegial and cooperative work environment, the Chief Librarian will oversee the selection, mentoring, evaluating, professional development, promotion and retention of the Library’s faculty and staff in a framework of shared faculty governance and collective bargaining. The Chief Librarian will guide faculty through the process of promotion and tenure.
This is an administrative appointment in CUNY's Executive Compensation Plan with an underlying tenured faculty position at the associate or full professor rank.
Candidates will be required to provide proof of vaccination against COVID-19 upon commencing employment. Exemption (medical or religious) requests to this
requirement will be considered in accordance with applicable law. Fully vaccinated is defined for this purpose as being at least two weeks past their final dose of and authorized COVID-19 vaccine regimen. Final candidates are required to be fully vaccinated as of their first day of employment.
QUALIFICATIONS
This position is in CUNY's Executive Compensation Plan. All executive positions require a minimum of a Bachelor's degree and eight years' related experience. Additional qualifications are defined below by the College.
Other Qualifications
Master's in Library Science (MLS), Master's in Library Information Studies (MLIS), or closely related discipline from an ALA-accredited institution, with a second graduate degree required.

• Substantial experience in tenure-bearing institutions and a demonstrated record of successful and progressively responsible duties in an academic library with a broad span of oversight.

The New York Botanical Garden seeks a creative and collaborative individual for the Systems, Digitization & Web Services Librarian position at the LuEsther T. Mertz Library.
The Mertz Library collects and preserves works of merit in botany, horticulture, and landscape design. The Library provides high-quality resources and services to meet the needs of the Garden's research staff, botanists, horticulturists, and graduate students as well as scientific, scholarly, and artistic communities worldwide. The Library is open to the public and supports diverse research, instructional, and outreach programs and develops strategic partnerships that advance research and promote new methods of providing access to an ever-expanding variety of information resources. The Mertz Library was among the first libraries in the country to undertake large scale digitization, and is one of the founding members of the Biodiversity Heritage Library (BHL).
The Systems, Digitization & Web Services Librarian provides leadership and expertise for the Library on existing and emerging technologies to enhance the operation and services, anticipating future trends in an evolving information environment. Also participates in decision and policy making, and participates in and provides expertise for collaborative partnerships with NYBG stakeholders and the broader natural history collections community.
Additionally, this position supports, through actions and conduct, NYBG’s Inclusion, Diversity, Equity and Accessibility initiatives and helps to build and maintain an inclusive organization culture throughout the institution.
Basic Job Functions
In a team- and service-oriented environment, the Systems, Digitization & Web Services Librarian manages the day-to-day technical support as well as the lifecycle of the Mertz Library’s systems, applications, hardware and web services including the library’s online catalog (OPAC), the digital asset management systems, and open-source information and collections management applications; coordinates the planning, evaluation and implementation of the Library’s electronic resources including the integrated library system (ILS), document delivery, discovery tools, and other library functions; recommends, configures, and provides support for new and emerging technologies and processes; develops and employs strategies to enhance the Library’s operation and services. The Librarian also manages the Library’s Digitization Program by developing and managing large digitization projects; developing and implementing workflow for digital curation, and maintaining best practices.
This position acts as the primary liaison with technology vendors, NYBG’s IT department and the Steere Herbarium’s Biodiversity Information Team.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities
Manages, implements, and troubleshoots systems for optimal performance, usability and accessibility.
Works with the Library staff and other stakeholders to develop a multi-year plan for the Library’s information technology and web services.
Collects statistics for systems usage to assist with resource allocation, identify trends, improve metadata descriptions and gap analysis.
Works with the IT Department, Library staff, and vendors to maintain the Library’s systems and services.
Planning, installation, and implementation for new software applications.
Collaborates in the development, creation, promotion and assessment of Library Systems policies, procedures and best practices.
Works with Library staff to develop and manage grant-funded digitization initiatives.
Manages digital curation for long-term preservation and access of Mertz Library’s digital assets
Participates in BHL staff conference calls and website administration through back-end maintenance using Portal Editing functions.
Responsible for maintenance, administration, and upkeep of Library website; edit HTML and CSS code.
Oversees the management of the Library’s Electronic Resources Management Systems (ERMS) and hosted EZProxy authorizations software.
Supports library staff in training and use of electronic resources, tools, software.
Supervises Digital Imaging Technician, grant-funded project staff and volunteers.
Qualifications
Master’s degree in an American Library Association accredited program in Library and Information Science. Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information design, network technology or equivalent experience is preferred.
Technical Knowledge and Skills:
Demonstrated knowledge of web technologies, including the creation and maintenance of websites using HTML and CSS; familiarity with website design.
Knowledge of Innovative Interfaces or similar integrated library systems.
Knowledge of database administration, data modeling, SQL queries, and experience working with APIs.
Knowledge of current best practices in the field of digital curation.

R. Barbara Gitenstein Library is a five-story, 135,000-square-foot facility that serves as an intellectual, cultural, and social center for the college. New York University Libraries is seeking a tenure-track faculty librarian to support the needs of data-intensive research and teaching across a wide range of social sciences, humanities, and sciences disciplines at NYU. This individual works as part of our Data Services department to grow and sustain a dynamic program that supports researchers across the full data lifecycle, including data finding and access, data literacy training and consultation, and data collections management and licensing. The Data Reference & Collections Librarian plays a key role in connecting university researchers with data sources, building rich data collections at NYU Libraries, and contributing to wider efforts to bring ethical and social justice concerns to data access, collection development, and our role in the research lifecycle. Depending upon the background of the candidate, this person may also serve as liaison librarian to one or more programs or departments at the University, selecting materials and providing services to support the research and teaching of faculty, graduate, and undergraduate students in said areas.

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum
Master’s degree in information and/or library science from an ALA-accredited school or an ALA-approved foreign equivalent.
Awareness of current issues and trends in information technology and public services.
Experience with usability studies and user feedback.
Demonstrated experience with web site development and online tutorial development, including familiarity with tools such as LibGuides, WordPress, Camtasia, etc.
Experience using course management systems and content management systems.
Familiarity with principles of reference, instruction, collection development, and faculty liaison programs in academic librarianship.

Shelby White & Leon Levy Fellowship in Manuscript Cataloging at The Morgan Library & Museum

The Morgan Library & Museum invites applications for the Shelby White & Leon Levy Fellowship in Manuscript Cataloging. The Fellowship is intended for new professionals who have demonstrated engagement with general cataloging and archival processing and wish to enhance their skills through intensive specialized training. This is a unique opportunity for early-career professionals to receive training and mentoring as members of the Morgan Library & Museum curatorial and cataloging staff.
Starting in February 2023, the Fellowship will consist of 650 hours, and applicants will have a choice between full-time (35 hours per week) or part-time (21 hours per week) work in order to complete the 650 hours. Fellows will be assigned to work on specific groups of 19th- or 20th-century correspondence. They will be expected to research the historical and cultural context in which the letters and documents were produced, create collection and item level records in CORSAIR—the Morgan's collections database—according to DCRM(MSS), assign accession numbers, and attend to the rehousing and conservation needs of the material. Considerations will be given to applicants’ areas of experience or expertise, such as specific language skills or subject specialization in art, literature, history, film, history of science, etc.
This opportunity is the second in a series of Manuscript Cataloging Fellowships that are offered by the Morgan every September and February from September 2022 to February 2025. The Morgan Library & Museum is grateful to the Leon Levy Foundation for their generous support of these special opportunities.
The position reports to the Manager of Collections Information and Library Systems, and works closely with curators in the Department of Literary and Historical Manuscripts.
Qualifications:
Master's Degree in Library and Information Science from an ALA-accredited institution or substantial course work towards the degree; a degree (or substantial course work toward one) in related areas, such as art, literature, history, film, or history of science, with specialization in working with original historical documents, will also be considered;
Experience with reading handwritten documents preferred;
Experience with archival processing preferred;
Excellent oral and written communication skills in English;
Knowledge of additional European languages preferred;
Knowledge of standard library cataloging tools, such as MARC21, RDA, DCRM, LCSH and other standard vocabularies preferred;

The Library Access Services Project Specialist is responsible for the maintenance of the Library’s physical collection. Under the supervision of the Director of Collections Strategy and Library Operations, this position coordinates, oversees, and implements varied collection maintenance projects from inventorying the collection to weeding it, and more. Additionally, the Specialist ensures that issues related to the physical spaces in the library are addressed. In doing so this critical role ensures access to our spaces and our resources. The Project Specialist may also cover breaks and select shifts at the Circulation and Help Desk. The position grounds all facets of this work in Barnard College’s “commitment to diversity, inclusion, and equity” (Diversity & Inclusion).
This position reports to the Director of Collection Strategy and Library Operations and is part of the Library Access Team at Barnard Library and Academic Information Services. All members of the s team cross-train and provide logistical support for one another;; participate in ongoing learning; build Library relationships across Barnard and Columbia; raise the profile of the Library; and work toward equity and inclusion to contribute to a thriving work environment and a user-focused commitment to accessibility.

Implements collection maintenance projects to ensure the condition and accessibility of collections. This position is a project manager who holds and tracks and completes projects from start to finish. Project areas include but are not limited to:

Managing missing books cycle and reporting

Services the Circulation & Help Desk, a central access point for Library services and collections, including, but not limited to these responsibilities:
Executes best practices for all operations of the library service desk, including basic reference, referrals, and excellent customer service, including sharing information about policies and collections (including the main collection, reserves, media, and zines), resolving problems, and clearing blocks (includes accessing and protecting users’ confidential circulation records) at the desk and in the Library in person, by email, by phone, and on chat reference.
Creating a user-centered, welcoming and accessible environment s for all students, alums, staff, and faculty. .
Troubleshooting and supporting spaces and equipment in connection with the collection throughout the library:
When needed, working with BCIT, BLAIS and AV, to ensure maintenance and function of equipment throughout the library user space, including maintenance for printers, computers, scanners, adjustable-height desks, etc.
When needed, reporting or placing work orders with Barnard Facilities and Custodial Services to ensure maintenance and repair of all building facilities related to the collection area when needed, including furniture, lighting, etc, should issues arise during the evening shift.
Operations Team Responsibilities
Practice excellence in customer service across the organization and with users. Internal and external customer service work includes: contributing to user-focused accessibility of the Barnard Library, and collaborating with the Student Engagement and Access Services Librarian to consider the impact of daily work on and evolve practices to affirm staff and users of historically underserved identities.
Contribute to Operations Team projects, including serving as backup for Library Operations Team workflows and training Library Operations Team members to prepare them to serve as backup for collection maintenance and digitization.
Partners with Director of CSLO and colleagues in CARES
(Community Accountability, Response, and Emergency Services), Facilities, Capital Projects, AV, BCIT, and others as need to maintain library collections, equipment, and furniture, and to ensure accessible, safe, and effective library spaces for all users
Build and maintain positive connections with colleagues across Operations Team, BLAIS, Barnard, and the Columbia University Libraries in order to support the work of the Operations Team.
