Job Description
The Scholastic Corporate Library & Archive seeks a graduate intern for the summer 2023 semester to be an integral part of the information services team contributing to archival research for the 60th anniversary of Scholastic Scope magazine. This is a project-based position with specific deliverables due at various points during the semester, starting in June 2023 and ending in August 2023. The Intern will report to Scholastic Inc.’s Director of Information Services & Cultural Insight and will work closely with the library staff, who will help provide guidance on handling the archival collection.

THE OPPORTUNITY/RESPONSIBILITIES

Digitize Scholastic Scope magazine contents from microfilm

Carefully scan magazine covers in full color from bound volumes

Gently scan fragile posters and informational charts accompanying magazine issues

Tag files with essential metadata so they can be organized in a content management system

Identify recurring columns, advertising, and editorial features in Scholastic Scope

Cataloging and database management as it relates to updating bibliographic records, data collection and entry, and file organization, using SirsiDynix Workflows, Microsoft Excel and Google drive

Provide reference services support for the Senior Information Specialist and Associate Librarians

Assist with the circulation of library and archive collection; staff the reference desk as needed

Qualifications
HOW YOU CAN FIT

A high level of attention to detail; experience handling archival materials is preferred, experience digitizing a plus

Excellent organizational, analytical skills with attention to detail; must be comfortable working with MARC 21, LCSH, RDA, AACR2 and local controlled vocabularies and subject tags; experience with SirsiDynix Workflows is ideal

Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs, including Word, Outlook, PowerPoint and Excel – as well as Google Workplace, including Google Drive, Docs, Sheets, and Slides; excellent oral and written communication skills

Ability to be flexible, work independently and prioritize workflow to meet deadlines

Self-motivated, disciplined, commitment to quality and strong team player

A background in publishing and/or education is helpful, but not required
