Job Description
The Graduate School of Library & Information Studies (GSLIS) at Queens College, City University of New York, has an open position for a Clinical Professor. The GSLIS is the only publicly supported American Library Association accredited school of library and information studies in the metropolitan New York City area. Queens is nicknamed “The World’s Borough” as a reflection of its status as the most diverse county in the US and the world’s capital of linguistic diversity.
Clinical Professor Master's degree in library/information science and a record of achievement in librarianship.
Experience teaching in higher education, a record of research and service, and ability to cooperate with others for the good of the institution. We seek the ability to employ perspectives from critical race studies, Indigenous methods, environmental justice, and queer studies. Qualified candidates will have research and teaching expertise as well as practical experience in one or more of the following areas:
· Critical librarianship or critical information studies, particularly as they relate to the fundamental principles and practices of librarianship and other kinds information work, the organization of information, and the use of information technologies.
· Managing libraries, archives or other information services, including experience of personnel management, budget setting and financial management, and project management.
· Reference services, including in academic settings.
· Labor organizing, countering job precarity and exploitative internship and employment practices.
· Open access, open educational resources, copyleft.
· Critical pedagogy in LIS, curriculum development / reform.
