School Librarian at PS 261
Part Time
Part-time School Librarian – PS 261
PS261 in Brooklyn is seeking a part-time librarian for the remainder of the 2023-2024 school year. We are seeking an energetic educator to provide library instruction and help integrate library resources throughout the school curriculum. PS261, located in Boerum Hill, serves over 500 students from Pre-K through 5th grade.
The school librarian will be responsible for creating a welcoming and respectful climate in the library; providing for diverse student needs in resources and instruction; providing opportunities for students to use the library for class-related research, individual investigation, independent reading, and personal inquiry; collaborating with teachers to plan and implement instructional units that integrate use of the library; working with teachers to integrate information literacy and technology skills into the school curriculum; managing the library space to enhance use and maintain an orderly environment and resource policies; and communicating regularly with staff, students, and parents about library resources and programs in various forms. Approximately 15% family engagement time, 18% circulation, 67% working with classes.
The PS261 library contains 7,620 titles. The collection requires some re-shelving due to pandemic-related changes. There is a $3,500 budget for purchasing library books and the librarian has the discretion to determine needs. A core purchase in previous years centered around diversity, equity, and inclusion and making sure the library had the most current titles. The library uses the Follett Destiny system.
This position is for approximately 20 hours per week. Days and schedule are flexible (e.g. 8:00am-12:00pm M-F, or 8:00am-2:40pm 3 weekdays). This is a part-time, temporary, non-union position that will conclude in June 2023.
Education: Bachelor's degree required; must be currently working towards or have completed an ALA-Accredited Master’s Degree in Library and Information Studies. Candidates who already have or are working towards their Library Media Specialist certification are preferred.
Salary: $40/hour

The Pratt Institute Libraries is seeking a temporary Part-Time Visiting Art, Architecture & Design Librarian for a 6 month appointment during the 2023-2024 academic year. The Pratt Institute Libraries support the research and education of approximately 5,200 undergraduate and graduate students across campuses in Brooklyn and Manhattan. Work Schedule:

The Digital Lab ensures the long-term accessibility and preservation of YIVO library and archive materials. The Lab primarily works on digitization and post-digitization phases of archival projects, ingesting upwards of half a million digital objects into their DAMS each year. Reporting to the Digital Lab Manager, the Digital Projects Specialist works on all digitization and ingest phases of projects. This is an on-site position.

Perform postproduction on digital objects, including adding metadata and filenames
Perform quality assurance on digitized materials
Ingest digitized materials into DAMS system

Keep current with trends and developments in the field of digital preservation.
Basic equipment maintenance and troubleshooting
Qualifications:
MLIS or equivalent

Position Summary:
The Engineering Data Services Specialist will be working in a vibrant and collaborative environment at the Bern Dibner Library that supports the educational and research enterprise for the Tandon School of Engineering. The candidate will support NYU students, faculty, and staff in some but not all areas of engineering data needs, such as Python, SQL, Git/GitHub, MATLAB, and data visualization. The successful candidate will work closely with Division of Libraries professionals and faculty with respect to referrals, service development, technology, standards, resources, and projects. The Lloyd Sealy Library at John Jay College invites applications for a tenure track faculty position at the rank of Instructor or Assistant Professor to begin Fall 2024. Head, User Services at Columbia University Libraries
Full Time
Reporting to the Director, Access Services, the Head, User Services is an integral part of operations within Butler Library and has a collaborative role in the direction of user services across all Columbia University Libraries. The role oversees three primary areas within Access Services: Circulation, Course Reserves, and the Library Information Office. The Head, User Services will frequently collaborate with the Director, Access Services; the Head, Delivery Services; and peers in branch libraries in pursuit of purposeful and welcoming access services practices.
Key Responsibilities
Collaboration across all access services and collections strategies units in the Libraries.
Manage and oversee day-to-day operations of the User Services department (Library Information Office; Course Reserves; Circulation) including staff development, workflow analysis, goal-setting, strategic planning, assessment, generation and analysis of reports, and policy documentation.
Standardize, document, and continually review student training practices. Monitor student employment budget. Oversee and delegate the recruitment, hiring, scheduling, and training of student employees. Serve as liaison between User Services and HR/Finance.
Identify, recommend, implement, and evaluate new technologies, policies, workflows, and departmental initiatives within the Library Information Office, Course Reserves, and Circulation portfolio.
Lead or participate in committees, including but not limited to Access Services Planning and Strategy Committee; Access Services Operations Coordinating Committee; and Columbia Unified Discovery. Represent Access Services in various consortial meetings.
Maintain active relationships with Libraries partners, including Library Information Technology Office; Humanities & Global Studies; Science Engineering Social Sciences Libraries; and Digital Scholarship.
Serve as liaison to Disability Services, Campus Safety, Graduate School of Arts and Sciences, and other campus departments as assigned. Manage reservations for and administer access to Butler Library lockers and study carrels.
Participate in and pursue professional development opportunities. Remain up-to-date on current practices within the field.
Ensure a welcoming environment for all library users, including students, staff, faculty, alumni, and visiting researchers and scholars.

Minimum Qualifications
Master of Library Science or other advanced degree in a related field, with relevant experience in libraries, museums, archives, or other cultural heritage research centers
Experience working in an academic library setting
Supervisory experience, preferably supervision of full-time staff, including goal setting and assessment
Experience assessing workflows and services related to circulation, course reserves, and public-facing service points
Experience with front-line library services
Excellent written and verbal communication habits
Experience with at least one integrated library system
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with organized labor unions
Experience with project management
Familiarity with data collection, processing, and analysis
Understanding of and experience working with diverse communities of people
Experience working at a large research university
Knowledge of shared lending practices and library consortia
