Job Description
Position Summary: Plan, design, develop, and administer the integrated library system (Millennium), electronic resources, and the Library’s web presence. Coordinate the shared management of the Information Commons.
Description of Duties:
- Ensure reliable, efficient and effective use of the integrated library system and appropriate library technologies through technical support, problem solving, and staff training for operations and services.
- Administer and manage the library-specific information technology infrastructure, including the integrated library system (ILS) that supports acquisitions, cataloging, circulation, interlibrary loan, serials, and numerous administrative functions.
- Serve as primary contact with vendor of ILS. Develop and implement ILS policies and procedures. Identify and resolve of ILS issues; stay current on ILS offerings and engage in planning, recommendation, and implementation of new applications offered by ILS vendor; arrange training of library staff in ILS modules.
- Serve as primary contact with vendors of electronic resources. Communicate with vendors and negotiate for favorable costs and conditions of electronic resources. Managing electronic resources and license agreements.
- Collaborate with librarians and library staff:
- investigating leading-edge technologies
- testing and evaluating new applications and electronic resources
- recommending and implementing appropriate systems in support
of library services
- Develop and manage the library’s web site, including online catalog and databases. Assess the usability of the web site, in consultation with library faculty.
- Coordinate, assess, and manage the facilities, equipment and services of the Information Commons with OIT and the Library Faculty Department Chair.
- Develop, prepare budget and oversee long-range plan for the ILS and electronic resources.
- Represent the College on regional and state-wide efforts to improve library systems and services.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Education:
- Master’s degree in Library Science/Information Science required.
Experience:
- Three years of hands-on progressive responsibilities and experience with integrated library system and information technology.
- Experience with Innovative Interfaces library systems preferred.
- Experience in a community college or higher education sector preferred.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
- Working knowledge in web site management, including networking, web programming and scripting languages is required.
- Knowledge of AACR2rev, MARC format, LC subject heading and classification, and authority records. Able to produce copy and original cataloging, data maintenance, and authority control in accordance with established national standards
- Demonstrated understanding of, and enthusiasm for, the role and potential of technology for the design and delivery of academic library services.
- Ability to combine technical knowledge with project management skills to achieve desired goals and objectives.
- Strong problem-solving skills, including flexibility, creativity, and initiatives.
- Ability to effectively communicate technical issues to colleagues, library patrons, vendors and to work in a collaborative environment.
- Excellent oral and written skills.
- Must be computer literate with ability to utilize Microsoft Office at an intermediate level and the ability to learn and utilize specific higher education programs and systems
- Ability to learn and apply office practices, procedures, policies, and regulations that are essential to the position.
- Fluency in a second language is preferred or may be required.
- Ability to travel within the county and state.
Salary: $68,255 with benefits
