JCFPL JOB TITLE: Emerging Technologies Librarian (Adult Services)
DEPARTMENT: Communipaw Branch Library
LOCATION: 295 Johnston Ave, Jersey City, NJ 07304
REPORTS TO: Branch Manager (Librarian III)
CIVIL SERVICE JOB TITLE: Librarian I
SALARY RANGE: $59,995 - $64,504 per year
FULL-TIME/PART-TIME: Full-Time
WORKWEEK: 09:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. (35 hours/week). Will be required to work evenings and weekends as scheduled.
JOB DUTIES:
· Develop and present library programming related to Emerging Technologies for all ages; create displays and informational materials to highlight book collections or services; collaborate with Engagement department on outreach programs; build relationships with local organizations to support library goals; create a welcoming, pleasing, creative, vibrant and dynamic space for patrons seeking Emerging Technology services, with support of colleagues
· Assist patrons at the circulation desk or with technology; answer reference questions; conduct readers’ advisory; perform circulation tasks using SIRSI; assist in material selection
· May supervise staff in lieu of Branch Manager absence; foster and maintain a diverse, equitable, inclusive, and accessible work environment
· Plan, develop, and implement library programs regarding Emerging Technologies at the library and/or off-site; cultivate and maintain partnerships with organizations to promote digital literacy and technology skills; share program information with Communications team, including photos, blurbs, booklists, etc.
· Contribute to tasks and projects; track and review work progress and activities
· Promote good customer service, including some public speaking involving tours and teaching technology skills to small groups; effectively handle patron complaints; develop and maintain a positive, helpful and professional approach to the overall community as well as individual library customers
· Network and collaborate with Outreach Services, educational entities, City departments, and other service agencies to promote services, activities, and goals of the library; attend meetings and serve on committees as needed
· Actively pursue self-development in library services and programming related to Emerging Technologies; stay current with Emerging Technologies and how they relate to trends in library programming (e.g. coding, makerspace equipment and technology, Minecraft, STEAM, etc; attend conferences and workshops, and read professional literature to stay informed on issues related to library services and creative learning activities; actively use Internet resources)
· Collaborate with local artists, organizations, and entrepreneurs to design and facilitate makerspace programs and events
·Supervise patron use of recording studio and makerspace equipment
· Provide safety orientations and equipment training for makerspace users
· Perform basic maintenance and equipment troubleshooting
· Manage makerspace bookings and schedule
· Perform other duties as assigned

Technology

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION:
- Ability to demonstrate a practical knowledge of library functions, services, terminology, techniques, procedures, and standard tools such as ILS (Integrated Library Systems), shelving arrangements, Dewey Decimal Classification System, and successful completion of relevant manager training within the organization.
- A Master’s degree in Library or Information Science in a library program accredited by the American Library Association or from a New Jersey college Master’s program in Library Science that has been deemed acceptable by Thomas Edison College.
- Familiarity with Emerging Technologies and ability to learn new and share new technology with others
ADDITIONAL RELEVANT SKILLS:
- Ability to manage and administer a library program.
- Knowledge of Jersey City’s population, geography, and/or local government.
- Facility in a non-English language spoken in Jersey City (such as Spanish, Hindi, Arabic, Tagalog, etc.).
- Operational knowledge of makerspace equipment & software (3D printer, laser cutter, heat press, audio/video recording and production equipment, sewing machines, CAD software, Adobe Creative Suite, etc.) preferred.
