Position Summary
Collections Acquisition and Description unit seeks a Bibliographic Assistant VI. The incumbent will perform a full range of activities to order, receive, and physically process Chinese materials in all formats and accompanying invoices.
Responsibilities
- Ordering Chinese language materials in all formats, including preorder duplicate checking, creating purchase orders in local ILS system, and forwarding orders to vendors.
- Receiving, unpacking, and processing the received materials by stamping, security-taping, and writing call numbers on current issues of serials, etc.
- Processing invoices, and claiming unfilled orders.
- Preparing materials for binding and preservation. Update related records in the local library system as needed.
- Processing gift and exchange materials; sending gift acknowledgments as needed.
- Maintaining and reporting monthly statistics.
- Assigning, revising, and training student workers.
- Performing copy cataloging tasks on Chinese language materials.
- Performing other duties as assigned.
Schedule: Monday-Friday, 9am-5pm
Minimum Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Advanced knowledge of Chinese, including classical and modern Chinese in both traditional and simplified scripts. Language test will be given.
- Familiarity with the Pinyin Romanization system.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong organization skills.
- Strong attention to detail and flexibility with job assignments.
- Strong computer and word-processing skills including familiarity with Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel.
- Ability to work independently for long periods of time after initial training.
- Ability to lift boxes of library materials up to 40 lbs., push loaded book carts, and carry materials up and down stairs.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree preferred.
- Previous acquisitions and/or cataloging experience in libraries.
- Experience with OCLC Connexion.
Compensation
$25-$26/hour
