METRO is very fortunate to work with a variety of wonderful member institutions to provide digital space for valuable collections online in the Digital Culture of Metropolitan New York (DCMNY) shared repository space. To enable us to provide this important service, we maintain the following DCMNY Membership Model.

DCMNY fees

DCMNY fees vary depending on which of the following METRO membership categories an institution falls under. Because METRO receives funding from the state of New York to serve institutions in New York City and Westchester County, some METRO membership categories and services are restricted to institutions that fall within our geographic region.

Non-Members

An institution outside of NYC and Westchester County may not wish to join METRO and pay the annual membership dues, but is still interested in taking advantage of the DCMNY services. The following fees would apply:

  • Initial setup fee (including one collection) of $1500
  • Base annual fee, 1 collection, $3000/yr
  • Each additional collection costs $1500/yr
  • Setup fee for each additional collection $750

We strongly encourage organizations outside of NYC and Westchester County to join our community as Digital Members and take advantage of a 20% discount on DCMNY as well as other services! 

All member billing takes place annually, July 1, at the beginning of METRO’s fiscal year. For members, additional fees incurred using DCMNY will be itemized and added to your annual membership dues. Non-members will receive invoices within 1 month of joining and requesting any additional services, and will be billed annually on July 1 based on the number of collections your institution has in DCMNY as of 6/30.

Local LAM Member and Hospital Members

If your organization operates a library and is located in New York City or Westchester County, then you are eligible for Local LAM Membership. Hospital Members are eligible for other local membership benefits that you can read more about here. These dues-paying METRO members who wish to participate in DCMNY get:

  • First 3 collections FREE
  • No initial setup fees
  • Each additional collection above 3 for $500/yr, with a one time setup fee of $500 per collection

Local Non-Profit Members

Local Non-Profit Membership is open to any non-profit organization in New York City or Westchester County regardless of their official status as a library. If they wish to partake in the DCMNY service, dues-paying Local Non-profit members get:

  • 20% off all DCMNY Non Member fees
  • 20% off bespoke Archipelago migration and support contracts

Digital Members (worldwide)

Digital Membership is open to any organization of any type interested in joining the METRO community. Dues-paying Digital members get:

  • 20% off all DCMNY Non-member fees
  • 20% off bespoke Archipelago migration and support contracts

General METRO Membership Information

Annual dues for all METRO membership categories are calculated based on a library’s operating budget. Learn more about METRO membership in general here, or read on to learn more about the DCMNY service and the costs associated with it.

  • Under $50,000: Annual Dues - $330

  • Between $50,000 and $99,000: Annual Dues - $551

  • Between $100,000 and $249,000: Annual Dues - $881

  • Between $250,000 and $499,000: Annual Dues - $1,210

  • Between $500,000 and $749,000: Annual Dues - $1,652

  • Between $750,000 and $999,000: Annual Dues - $2,202

  • Between $1,000,000 and $2,000,000: Annual Dues - $3,305

  • Over $2,000,000: Annual Dues - $4,405
