Collection: Local Newspaper Microfilm Collection
Description: The Field Library currently maintains over 800 reels of microfilm dating from the 1830s to the 2010s. Beginning with the earliest newspapers in the collection (1830) and working up to the 1900s, the Field Library will digitize 50 reels of this invaluable local collection of historic newspapers. This includes over a thousand issues total from:The Westchester and Putnam Sentinel, Westchester and Putnam Republican, Peekskill Republican, Highland Eagle, The Peekskill Messenger, Peekskill Advertiser, Peekskill Blade, and The Highland Democrat.
In addition to important coverage of the Civil War and Spanish-American War, these early newspapers also include a wealth of genealogical and local history information. They paint a picture of what life was like in the Hudson Valley in the 19th and 20th centuries.
