Collection: Linewaiters' Gazette Collection
Description: The Linewaiters’ Gazette Collection, held by Brooklyn Public Library’s Center for Brooklyn History (CBH), is an archive of the bimonthly Linewaiters’ Gazette newsletter published by members of the Park Slope Food Coop since 1973. The Park Slope Food Coop is a cooperative grocery store located at 782 Union Street in the Park Slope neighborhood of Brooklyn, and is unique in being one of the oldest and largest food coops in the United States. General meeting and committee meeting reports published in the Linewaiters’ Gazette provide a view into the inner workings of the Coop and how membership have handled change and conflict throughout its history. The Coop’s triumphs and challenges are equally represented in the Linewaiters’ Gazette, providing an uncommon view of a still-active organization. In documenting the activities of the Park Slope Food Coop and its community, the Linewaiters’ Gazette captures not only the evolution of a successful cooperative but also the granular history and change of the Park Slope neighborhood and the borough of Brooklyn.
