Do you love working with teens? Helping them find a great read, the answer to a homework problem, and just brightening up their day? The White Plains Public Library has openings for Part-Time Librarians in our Youth Services Department, with a focus on working in the Edge, our teen library.
Duties include, but are not limited to
- Providing circulation assistance, customer service, reference, reader’s advisory, and homework help in the Edge, our Teen Library for grades 7-12.
- Overseeing the Edge during its busiest hours and ensuring teen patrons have a rewarding experience while also following the Library’s code of conduct.
- Occasionally working in the Trove, our children’s library.
Minimum Qualifications
- Master’s degree in library or information science (MLS/MSIS). Recent graduates are encouraged to apply.
- NYS Public Librarian Certificate.
- Bilingual Spanish speaking is strongly preferred.
Required Skills
- Ability to work with a diverse group of children, teens and adults.
- Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills.
- Being very approachable and welcoming, while enforcing the Library’s rules and code of conduct.
- Ability to work independently.
Shifts include Monday-Wednesday 4-7pm, Fridays 3-6pm, and some weekend hours.
Rate of pay: $30/hour.
