Appointment Duration: 12 to 18 months (with possibility of extension), to begin in September 2025
Hours: Approximately 15 hours per week (900 hours total)
Hourly Rate: $51.94/hr.

About the Position:
Baruch College’s William & Anita Newman Library invites applications for a part-time Project Archivist to join the Archives and Special Collections division. This role will focus on processing and digitizing the recently acquired Edmond J. Safra / Republic National Bank of New York Collection, a significant archival resource documenting the business legacy of Edmond J. Safra, who led the bank from its inception in 1966 until its sale in 1999. The collection covers the business activities of the bank, including capital building activities, institutional leadership, banking history, entrepreneurship, finance, and corporate communications, and highlights Safra’s focus on banking ethically, protecting depositors, and avoiding excessive leverage and risks.

Responsibilities:
The Project Archivist will be responsible for managing the ingest, processing, and description of the Edmond J. Safra / Republic National Bank of New York Collection, including:

  • Conducting a preliminary inventory and processing archival materials, ensuring proper arrangement and housing
  • Creating a DACS-compliant finding aid using ArchivesSpace
  • Selecting materials for digitization and developing an efficient digitization workflow
  • Providing online access to digitized materials via JStor Forum
  • Collaborating with archival staff to design and implement an oral history program, including equipment selection, workflow development, and conducting interviews with key former executives
  • Assisting the Head of Archives and Special Collections with recruiting and supervising graduate student assistants who will support processing, digitization, and oral history activities

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Master of Library and Information Science (MLIS) degree
  • Minimum of one year hands-on archival experience (including internships or part-time roles)
  • Knowledge of archival standards for preservation, arrangement, and description
  • Familiarity with oral history best practices

Preferred:

  • Experience managing archival processing and digitization projects
  • Proficiency with metadata and archival description standards (DACS, EAD, Dublin Core)
  • Previous experience with print collection digitization
  • Experience supervising student workers
  • Working knowledge of ArchivesSpace or comparable collection management software

Appointment Details:
This position is on-site at Baruch College for approximately 15 hours per week, with a 12 to 18-month appointment, for a total of approximately 900 hours. There is potential for additional funding beyond the initial term. Compensation is $51.94 per hour.
