The Kurt R. Schmeller Library at Queensborough Community College invites applications for the position of Information Literacy Coordinator at the rank of Instructor or Assistant Professor. The candidate will provide information literacy instruction and serve as liaison to one or more academic departments and share responsibility for committee and department assignments, performing administrative, supervisory, and other functions as may be assigned.
Responsibilities include:
Manage, develop, and assess the information literacy instruction program in alignment with the library strategic plan and college mission
Coordinate day-to-day operations of the information literacy program
Collaborate with faculty and other librarians to lead the development and maintenance of information literacy at different student levels and needs
Keep up with trends in instructional technologies and head initiatives to integrate artificial intelligence (AI) into information literacy instruction
Collaborate with university colleagues as required to initiate and maintain projects that promote information literacy and research education on campus
Maintain Information Literacy Modules of the First Year Experience (FYE) in an online environment
Design shared instructional materials in various formats (e.g. digital, interactive, etc.), including, but not limited to LibGuides, online tutorials, and training materials
Conduct information literacy instruction sessions, in all teaching modalities
Develop and maintain best practices, policies, and procedures related to information literacy instruction within the library
Act as subject liaison between the library and designated departments
Work at the reference desk and other duties as assigned
Be flexible to work evenings, early mornings, and/or weekends. Some evening or weekend shifts may be required.

QUALIFICATIONS
The requirement for the rank of instructor (non-tenure track) is a Master of Library Science (MLS) or a Master of Library and Information Science (MLIS) or an equivalent degree from an ALA-accredited program and/or active progress toward a Doctorate, or equivalent.
The requirement for the rank of assistant professor (tenure-track) is an MLS or an MLIS or an equivalent degree from an ALA-accredited program and a second master’s degree
Preferred Qualifications :
Excellent interpersonal and leadership qualities, a commitment to collaboration and mutual respect, and the ability to work efficiently and effectively on shared projects and committees in our multicultural library and college/university community. Preference will be given to candidates who demonstrate excellence with engaged learning instruction tailored to the needs of student populations in a community college.
- Experience with reference and Information literacy teaching experience in academic libraries
- Demonstrated leadership of library information literacy instructional programs
- Demonstrated proficiencies in library assessment, especially with information literacy instruction
- Strong knowledge and experience in implementing the ACRL Framework in information literacy instruction
- Demonstrated experience in using instructional technologies such as AI tools for information literacy
- Demonstrated experience of designing instruction and materials using critical pedagogy
- Demonstrate a strong commitment to research
- Experience working with diverse populations
