Gallery Assistant
We are seeking an intellectually curious, and organized Gallery Assistant to join our rare bookstore and specialized map/print gallery. You will play a role in supporting the gallery’s day-to-day operations, processing and cataloging archival acquisitions, maintaining our unique inventory, and providing an informative experience for a range of customers – from decorators and collectors to researchers and enthusiasts.
Key Responsibilities
• Visitor & Client Relations: Greet and direct visitors, pull folders and material for viewing, provide information, and answer general inquiries via phone and email.
• Cataloging and Inventory Management: Sort, research, and safely handle antique maps and prints. Assist with basic conservation housing & presentation (sleeving and matting). Write detailed descriptions of inventory for our online database, including assessing condition, publication dates, and historical context. Measure and photograph materials for our website.
• Administrative Support & Gallery Maintenance: Process orders, generate shipping labels, and assist with invoicing and general transactions. Keep packing materials stocked and organized, and maintain general appearance of the gallery.
Qualifications & Skills
• Interest in maps and prints, strong research and communication skills (verbal and written), and exceptional attention to detail.
• Retail experience or experience working public-facing roles a plus.
Position Details
• Full – time or part time. Scheduling between 10am-6pm. Saturday availability required beginning in September.
• $22-25/hour depending on experience.
