The Hunter College Libraries (HCL) serve over 30,000 students, faculty, and staff at the Cooperman Library, the Zabar Art Library, the Health Professions Library, and the Social Work & Urban Public Health Library. The HCL provide essential resources for learning, collaboration, and innovation in a welcoming and dynamic academic environment. Across all our locations, College Assistants provide high-quality customer services at our Welcome, Circulation, and Audio-Visual service desks as well as within our reference and technical departments.

What Do College Assistants Do?
- Handle complete range of service desk duties including opening/closing procedures, circulation of Library materials, and maintenance of patron records using a computerized integrated library system;
- Demonstrate professionalism through courteous interaction with patrons and colleagues, adherence to HCL policies & procedures, and consistent attendance and punctuality;
- Support patrons in utilizing computers, software, printers, photocopiers, and other library equipment;
- Ensure the confidentiality of information obtained during business activities related to students, faculty, staff, or other employees;
- Contribute to a safe educational/work environment by participating in associated drills/trainings and maintaining readiness to respond to a health or safety emergency;
- Perform routine clerical tasks including management of phone calls, office machines, and mail distribution;
- Participate on special projects as assigned.
What Are the Position Details?
- In-person work that involves sitting, standing, stooping, bending, stretching, walking, shelving library materials, lifting and carrying moderately heavy material up to 25 pounds, and other physical activities;
- The setting contains minimal exposure to safety hazards;
- Part-time hours (15- 20 hours per week) with a maximum of 1040 hours per year;
- Required evening and weekend shifts, ensuring our library serves the community during all operating hours;
- Comprehensive benefits package for part-time employees meeting work hour criteria;
- Compensation: $19.12 per hour.

- Thursday 5-10 (5)
- Saturday 12-5 (5)
Experience or interest in Circulation and/or Audio-Visual services a plus.
Zabar Art Library – Branch (20 hours)
- Monday OR Friday 9-5 (7.5)
- Wednesday 9-2 (5)
- Thursday 9-5 (7.5)
Experience or interest in art/art history/visual resources a plus.
Social Work & Urban Public Health Library – Branch (19 hours)
- Wednesday 2-10 (7.5)
- Thursday 9-1 (4)
- Friday 9-5 (7.5)
Experience or interest in accessibility and/or OCR conversion a plus.
