The New York State Education Department’s (NYSED) Office of Cultural Education is seeking candidates for an Archives and Records Management Specialist 3 (ARMS 3) position in the New York State Archives (NYSA). This position will be assigned to the Digital Records Services Unit within Government Records Services. The selected candidate will work as part of a team to ensure reliable access to NYSA services and holdings through the effective management of core information systems and digital assets. Under the direction of the Head of the Digital Records Services Unit, the individual in this role will be responsible for:
• Working as part of a team to ensure that internal information systems better support archival electronic records processes. Current systems include ArchivesSpace, Preservica, Archive-It, and CollectiveAccess.
• Assisting in the configuration of public, web-based archival information systems to improve access to the services and holdings of the New York State Archives. Current systems include ArchivesSpace, Preservica, Archive-It, CollectiveAccess, and NYSA’s Drupal based website.
• Coordinating projects that ensure that the NYSA website content is accessible, reliable, and up to date.
• Leading projects designed to identify solutions for managing and providing access to complex electronic record types including email, social media, and records maintained in information systems.
• Overseeing the conversion of analog records to digital format for preservation and access, particularly audio-visual records, and coordinating the description and management of these records with the Access Services unit.
• Participating in the appraisal and accessioning of complex electronic records series.
• Supervising and reviewing work products of ARMS 2 staff in Digital Records Services.
