2025 – Digitization Project Grants

Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center

Collection: 130 Years of Discoveries: Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center Annual Reports 1884-2014

Description: The Archives at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center collects materials documenting the history and accomplishments of MSKCC from 1884 to present. The corporation that is now Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center was founded in 1884 as New York Cancer Hospital, later Memorial Hospital. The Sloan-Kettering Institute opened in 1947, and the two institutions legally combined in 1980.

The purpose of this grant is to digitize the Annual Reports for Memorial Hospital, the Sloan Kettering Institute, and Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSK) from its founding in 1884 through 2014, when our Annual Reports moved to a digital format. Within the Annual Reports, MSK documents major innovations in cancer care, new buildings and community developments, expansions in services, major awards, and vital statistics for each year. The reports will prove a vital resource for researchers interested in the history of medicine, genealogy, and MSKCC’s footprint in New York City and beyond.
