Between the unstoppable growth of digital collections, the rapid development of self-publishing, and other big changes in the book world, library workers are balancing more than ever when working with collections. In this session, we will review the many types of balance that librarians should seek in their collections. In addition to thinking about balancing formats, age levels, and viewpoints, we will also consider how we measure collections, and how we can set goals that support us in maintaining balanced collections.
By the end of this session, attendees will:
- Understand the many facets that need to be balanced in a library collection
- Understand how to set collection use goals that encourage balanced collection development practices
- Feel more confident in their ability to build collections in collaboration with their community
