Collection: Yonkers Historic Maps, 1905-2004

Description: Yonkers is the third largest city in the state and is in the midst of profound economic, social and demographic change. Yonkers has played an important role in the industrial history of this country, and the city contains unique neighborhoods and proud, diverse communities.

This group of maps documents the 20th century, when Yonkers was experiencing rapid growth and changes in its infrastructure and street layout; complementing existing digitized map collections, the bulk of which cover the 19th century. This collection can be used to explore patterns of immigration/assimilation, suburbanization/reurbanization, industry and environmentalism, as well as housing and educational segregation and desegregation in the City of Yonkers.
