BCCLS seeks a full-time Librarian to join its Cataloging Department. This position reports to the Executive Director and is a member of a dynamic three-person team. The cataloging department supports its seventy-nine (79) members by ensuring timely entry of new materials, ongoing quality control, and assist in ensuring all applicable policies and procedures are adhered to. Responsibilities
- Creates original and copy-cataloged MARC records for materials submitted for catalog entry in compliance with AACR2, RDA, MARC, LCSH standards and local cataloging policies
- Provides original cataloging for local history, self-published items, brand new items, reprints, etc.
- Maintains and cleans up data fields as needed
- Responds to cataloging- and linking-related inquiries from library staff
- Provides training and support for cataloging
- Keeps informed of cataloging developments and collection development trends
Qualifications
- M.L.S. from an ALA-accredited library science program
- Excellent English, organizational, and interpersonal skills
- Commitment to excellent customer service
- Ability to travel statewide and nationwide to professional conferences and events
Preferences
- Experience working in cataloging for two (2) plus years
- Reading knowledge or cataloging familiarity with languages other than English
- Experience working with OCLC Worldcat protocols and authority controls systems
