The Associate Librarian reports to the Director of the Library and serves as the Coordinator for the Collection Development & Access Department. Due to the specialized knowledge and skills required for this coordinator role, the Associate Librarian also serves in an advisory capacity to the Director of the Library and the Associate Dean of Instruction & Learning for the Learning Commons.
Collection Development & Access
- Oversees collection development of physical and electronic resources
- Oversees circulation, reserve collection, and resource sharing/interlibrary loans (access services).
- Oversees ordering, invoicing, receiving, cataloging and processing of materials (technical services).
- Supervises Principal Library Clerk
- Analyzes data and applies best practices to lead the development and maintenance of and access to physical and digital library collections.
- Leads annual departmental goal setting, tracks progress, analyzes results, and writes annual reports.
- Creates collection development policies that support the DCC curriculum and the Ritz Library’s mission.
- Creates policies that encourage increased circulation and usage of resources.
- Guides and supports librarians in departmental collection development liaison roles and general collection selections.
- Provides budget projections, recommendations, and updates to the Director of the Library.
- Oversees onboarding, training, and professional development for departmental staff.
- Cultivates departmental learning and teaching culture.
Shared Responsibilities
- Participates in Research Help Program with regular shifts on the research help desk and AskUs24/7 platform and provides research consultations.
- Teaches information literacy sessions.
- Acts as Departmental Collection Development Liaison.
- Occasionally provides programs and services in the evenings and on weekends.
- Participates in library outreach.
Other
- Substitutes for the Director of the Library as needed.
- May represent the library at public functions.
- Assumes other duties as assigned by the Director of the Library.
