FACULTY VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT

The Kurt R. Schmeller Library at Queensborough Community College invites applications for the position of Access Services Librarian at the rank of Instructor or Assistant Professor. The candidate will oversee the daily operations of library circulation, course reserves, and collection access and security, and will provide interlibrary loan (ILLiad) services. The candidate will also develop and implement relevant policies and procedures; serve as a liaison to one or more academic departments; and share responsibility for committee and departmental assignments. Additional duties include performing administrative, supervisory, and other functions as assigned.

Responsibilities:

Coordinate circulation services for the lending and returning of materials and managing fines in Alma

Create, develop, and assess policies regarding access services, including library space and facilities, circulating materials, Alma Fulfillment, and stack management

Facilitate collection maintenance and deselection, including coordinating stack/reserve maintenance procedures and weeding

Set up opening hours for library each semester and update hours in Alma

Coordinate with the Office of Public Safety to ensure secure facilities

Collect and report annual statistics on circulation, access services, interlibrary loan service, and facilities

Train new staff and work-study students

Develop and manage policies related to library access for alumni and community patrons

Provide CUNY library inter-campus services (CLICS) and Interlibrary Loan services (ILLiad), both borrowing and lending and managing delivery services

Attend CUNY OLS (Office of Library Services) Fulfillment meetings as the representative for QCC¿

Teach information literacy classes and provide reference services in-person & online

Other duties as assigned

Position hours include evening, early mornings, and/or weekends.

QUALIFICATIONS

All titles require a Master’s in Library Science (MLS), Master’s in Library Information Studies (MLIS), or closely related discipline from an ALA-accredited institution.

There are two tracks:

  • The requirement for the rank of instructor (non-tenure track) is a Master of Library Science (MLS) or a Master of Library and Information Science (MLIS) or an equivalent degree from an ALA-accredited program
  • The requirement for the rank of assistant professor (tenure-track) is an MLS or an MLIS or an equivalent degree from an ALA-accredited program and a second master’s degree

Preferred Qualification :

Excellent interpersonal and leadership qualities, a commitment to collaboration and mutual respect, and the ability to work efficiently and effectively on shared projects and committees in our multicultural library and college/university community.

  • Strong proficiency with Ex Libris Alma/Primo
  • Experience in assessing areas of access services
  • Experience with Interlibrary Loan and resource sharing services
  • Experience in teaching information literacy instruction and providing reference services
  • Experience providing strong customer service to diverse populations
  • Proven track record of providing innovative library services
  • Works as part of team as well as independently
  • Exhibits strong leadership and organizational skills
  • Flexible to work evenings, early mornings, and/or weekends
