We are seeking a versatile and detail-oriented candidate to: perform original cataloging, authority work, and record maintenance for the catalog shared by 51 autonomous member libraries; assist in the development of confident and informed system and member library staff; and support system objectives related to collections as they evolve over time.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Performs original cataloging, authority work, copy cataloging, and bibliographic record maintenance activities in accordance with local procedures.
- Assists in the evaluation of new cataloging technologies and workflows and trains Catalogers in relevant cataloging technologies.
- Responds to cataloging and technical services related queries from members in a timely manner.
- Provides and assists others with training and consultation for cataloging, technical services, and other related topics when appropriate.
- Develops, and assists in the development of, cataloging documentation and procedures.
- Aids in the maintenance of system collections/services and collaborates with system staff on projects.
- Represents the System in meetings, conferences, and committees as directed.

QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS
- MLS (or equivalent) from an ALA-accredited library school.
- Required skills: Strong knowledge and experience with Microsoft Office and Google Workspace tools. Preferred skills: Experience with Sierra (including Create Lists). Desired skills: Experience with BookWhere, SkyRiver, OCLC, and BTcat; experience with original and/or copy cataloging.
- Strong communication skills, an eye for detail, able to work effectively in a team and individually.
- Customer service-driven, shows initiative, curiosity, aptitude for learning, and adapting to change.
COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
Starting salary $60,000-$70,000 depending on relevant experience and qualifications. Excellent benefits, including the potential for limited telecommuting. NLS is not subject to Civil Service. This position is part of the collective bargaining unit. Professional involvement encouraged and supported.
