About the Strategic Researcher Role
Strategic researchers uncover and share information based on a deep understanding of our customers’ requirements, building on a foundation of strong research and data retrieval skills. They apply their analytical skills to distill complex research findings into actionable insights that meet requestors’ needs. Results delivered can range from internal candidate lists to thought leadership quoted by the legal press.
Expectations include:
- Creatively find relevant data in the most efficient and cost-effective manner
- Analyze and communicate the most significant and notable research results to all appropriate audiences from admins to the Executive Board.
- Deliver written research on ad hoc topics with reference to legal markets, specific law firms, and the clients those law firms support
- Be part of a team that leads by example, identifies and bridges gaps, perpetuates our professional culture, and strengthens our overall performance
- Propose new ways to apply knowledge and resources to further our business
Some specific responsibilities:
- Conduct research using information sources targeted to the recruiting industry in the US and UK, and supplement with research from sources learned elsewhere
- Use standard deliverables or create new templates for sharing results
- Develop individual subject specialties as part of a global team
- Demo specific information sources and their applications; train and support other users
- Select and summarize content for firm-wide and subject-focused newsletters
- Contribute to internal databases used in our search process
- Maintain and update shared internal information sources in Power BI and SharePoint
Requirements and qualifications:

- Intellectual curiosity and satisfaction in applying information to customer needs.
- Strong opinions about what makes quality research—and even more, what makes quality research better.
- Demonstrated ability to produce written analysis of research findings and to present them to others. This presumes experience with Word templates and Excel features like formulas, pivot tables, and conditional formatting.

This is a hybrid position aligned with either our NYC or DC offices, working East Coast hours plus occasional travel to other offices or video meetings in other time zones. Most employees come to the office 1-3 days each week, but we will consider proposals from fully remote employees elsewhere in the US who are willing to come to NYC or DC periodically. Within this setting, we offer significant flexibility to accommodate the daily demands of life outside the workplace, as our firm is committed to being a “family and good health come first” employer.
Recruiting and retaining extraordinary staff begins with building a platform that staff wish to join, coupled with attractive compensation and a comprehensive benefits package. Macrae believes our total package is among the most competitive in our industry. Salary is DOE.
