Do you love working with youth and families? Helping them find a great read, the answer to a homework problem, and just brightening up their day?  The White Plains Public Library has an opening for a Part-Time Librarian in our Youth Services Department.  

Duties include, but are not limited to

  • Providing circulation assistance, customer service, reference, reader’s advisory, and homework help in the Trove, our Children’s Library for up to grade 6, and the Edge, our Teen Library for grades 7-12.
  • Opportunities to run programs for children and teens.


Minimum Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in library or information science (MLS/MSIS).  Recent graduates are encouraged to apply.  
  • NYS Public Librarian Certificate.
  • Bilingual Spanish speaking is strongly preferred.


Required Skills

  • Ability to work with a diverse group of children, teens and adults.
  • Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills. 
  • Being very approachable and welcoming, while enforcing the Library’s rules and code of conduct.
  • Ability to work independently. 

Shifts include Mondays 4-8/9pm and Fridays 10am-5pm.  Other hours to be available on an on-call basis.

Rate of pay:  $30/hour.
