How does light or darkness impact library and archival work? Do you think about the sun and its proximity to your facility at different times of year? Are your collections light sensitive? Is your building open after dark?
Please join us for a warm breakfast with serious conversations and plenty of playtime on a chilly day at the Library Field from 9:00am to 12:00pm on Sunday, December 21st. The winter solstice is the shortest day of the year, and the official solstice moment is at 10:03am. METRO will have a campfire burning hot and bright that morning, and we hope you’ll join us to eat together as a community of thick-skinned librarians and archivists at our beautiful retreat in the woods. We hope to establish an annual tradition, and this is your chance to be with us for the very first solstice event!
This is a family-friendly event. Breakfast will include gluten-free and vegan options. Just like the solstice itself, this event will take place rain, snow, or sunshine, so dress appropriately. We will have a restroom available at the site. Space is limited, so sign up quickly!
This event is open to active METRO members only. If you have a question about your membership status, please reach out to us. The $10 fee is to cover your food and to confirm your commitment to actually showing up in the woods in the middle of the winter. The Library Field is in New Castle, NY, a short Uber ride from the Ossining stop on the Metro North train line. After you sign up, we will provide further instructions for how to arrive at the site.
