METRO is developing a new, open source digital collections software. It’s designed to empower communities of every size and shape.
At the core of the Archipelago philosophy is our commitment to both simplicity and flexibility.
Under the hood, Archipelago is:
- Drupal (CMS)
- SOLR (Search)
- Cantaloupe (Image Server)
But the best part is that if you don’t want to know all of that, you don’t *need* to know it. Installation is entirely scripted with easy-to-follow directions. And we are here to help.
Our homegrown module, StrawberryField, is Archipelago’s innovative way of extending Drupal’s core webform module to add metadata capabilities to the CMS without sacrificing scalablity or performance.
Archipelago was built on our belief that any community should be empowered to describe their items and collections however they wish to. Systems must accommodate and celebrate our diversity, not constrain and dilute it. With StrawberryField, your metadata is stored in a single database table as JSON, which can then be cast into countless other standards and formats depending on your preferences.
Digital Culture of Metropolitan New York (DCMNY)
DCMNY is a shared repository that we make available to METRO members who need to host their digital assets somewhere, but do not feel they need their own unique system.
