Columbia University Libraries invites applications for the position of Technical Assistant VI. Under the direction of the Manager of the Digital Imaging Lab within the Preservation and Digital Conversion Department, the incumbent will digitize a series of fragile and rare Muslim Manuscripts held by Columbia University Libraries. This is a temporary, grant funded, 3-year position with possibility of extension.
This grant funded position begins April 2, 2018 and has an end date of March 31, 2021, with possibility of extension.
Responsibilities include: -Digitizing rare, fragile and brittle bound volumes and/or loose manuscripts as needed for The Muslim World Manuscript Project. -Using small/medium format digital cameras; -Using imaging, color management, database and spreadsheet software; -Exercising judgment in handling of fragile, rare materials in a variety of formats (e.g. oversized items, bound items, archival materials, photographs, works of art on paper, etc.) with an ability to consult with conservation staff when appropriate; -Exercising judgment in identifying and rejecting materials unsuited for reformatting; -Performing post-processing of various images with the ability to ascertain correct reformatting methods.
Interviews will include a Photoshop and photography test, and will require a portfolio review of related photography work.
$22.28/hour ($21.72/hour for new hires)
