Part-Time Outreach Librarian, MyLibraryNYC - Queens Library

Under the supervision of the Coordinator of MyLibraryNYC, the Part-Time Outreach Librarian is responsible for developing and maintaining Queens Library’s relationships with the NYC Department of Education and local schools as part of the MyLibraryNYC initiative. This position will deliver core services to the participating schools during the school year, and requires frequent travel to Queens Library locations and specific Public Schools in Queens. Additional responsibilities include assisting in data collection for MyLibraryNYC, providing training to educators and students on MyLibraryNYC initiatives, participating in community outreach and attending community events. Performs other duties as required.

Responsibilities

Outreach and Training The Part-Time Outreach Librarian works with local schools to ensure all students and educators have library cards. This position provides training to educators and students on MyLibraryNYC initiatives, Queens Library online resources and other topics as needed. The Part-Time Outreach Librarian visits assigned schools to support faculty, students and parents on use of MyLibraryNYC resources and services. The Part-Time Outreach acts as a liaison between schools and local Queens Library locations.

Administrative The Part-Time Outreach Librarian assists in the creation of promotional and training materials. This position serves as a resource and problem solver for project-related questions from schools. The Part-Time Outreach Librarian provides limited reference and reader’s advisory services.

Qualifications

The Part-Time Outreach Librarian requires an MLS/MLIS degree from an ALA-accredited library school and must be eligible for the NYS librarian certification. Must have a minimum of 2 years relevant experience working with youth. Demonstrated ability for planning, organization and administration. Strong presentation and programming skills. Significant outreach experience is preferred. Familiarity with the NYC public school environment preferred.
This position requires fingerprinting by the NYC Department of Education.

Compensation

• The rate of pay for this position is a range from $25.00 to $28.00 per hour based upon experience. • Flexible schedule that may include limited evenings and weekends with a maximum of 17 hours per week. • Part-time positions do not offer any medical or health benefits.
