Librarian II Youth Services - Nassau Library System

Nassau Library System is seeking an experienced, high-performing, energetic, flexible, organized self-starter who can support member libraries in the delivery of services to youth, especially teens and tweens. Reports to the Manager of Youth Services.


• Plan, facilitate, and deliver professional development workshops and meetings for youth services librarians who focus on teen and tween services. • Encourage member library staff to reflect the demographics and increasing diversity of the teens and tweens in the communities they serve in their collections, programs, and other services. • Develop and maintain relationships with agencies serving and advocating for teens and tweens; Promote collaboration and partnerships with these agencies. • Provide training and support as needed on NLS and state-wide initiatives. • Maintain open communications with youth services librarians via regularly scheduled meetings and online via listservs, blogs, and social media. • Keep current with issues, best practices and trends in public library service to teens and tweens. • Assist with website content, social media, as well as creating and editing department publications. • Create and coordinate shared materials lent to member libraries, including various kits. • Represent NLS at professional meetings and conferences on the local, state, and national level as recommended by the Manager of Youth Services.


• MLS from an ALA-accredited library school and 3 years of professional library experience in youth services with at least 1 year in teen services. • Comprehensive knowledge of library practices and techniques in teen services. • Demonstrated innovative and creative programming and services for teens. • Excellent customer service, as well as interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills. • First-rate planning, organizational, time-management and problem-solving skills. • Computer literate; proficient in MS Office Suite, Publisher, and Google products. • Knowledge of WordPress a plus. • Knowledge about NLS member libraries a plus.


Starting salary $56,000 - $60,000 depending on relevant experience and abilities Excellent benefits. Professional involvement encouraged and supported.
