The Museum of Modern Art is currently accepting applications for a Digital Image Archivist in its’ Imaging and Visual Resources Department. Reporting to the Digital Asses Manager, the incumbent will work with the Imaging Studio and other departments producing digital content to organize assets for the digital asset management system (DAM) ingest.
Checks image quality and updates metadata formatting and file naming. Integrates information from various sources and databases.
Assists other departments to ingest Museum assets; communicates any inconsistencies or issues.
Maintains documentation and staff training materials for proper digital asset management (DAM) usage and workflows.
Provides support training and assistance to Museum staff on effective usage of DAM.
Digitizes archival documents.
Updates existing images through retouching color correction cropping and image rotating etc.
Performs advanced asset searches and tagging of artworks.
Performs any other duties reasonably related to the functions described above.
Bachelor of arts or bachelor of science in imaging imaging science or library science.
One to three years previous experience with DAM systems in a museum or library environment (experience may include internships).
Experience with DAM taxonomy and metadata.
Previous experience digitizing materials for preservation. Proficient on Mac and PC platforms.
Very high level of organizational and communication skills.
Experience with database management including creating organizational file structures advanced searches and batch processes.
Experience with TMS NetXposure a plus.
Knowledge of modern art history.
Understanding of how museums are organized and how they document their collections.
Knowledge and understanding of digital image file parameters including bit depth color profiles resolution compression image size and formats.
Ability to digitize archival paper documents including safe handling for reproduction.
Excellent Photoshop skills. Bridge and Google office app skills.
Ability to learn new software.
Solid analytic skills to improve processes.
Effective working both independently and as part of a team.
