NYU Division of Libraries is seeking a Collections Manager, Special Collections who will be responsible for overseeing and managing the physical holdings of the NYU Special Collections, both prior to, during and after the Special Collections renovation.
This position, which will report to senior Special Collections management, will be responsible for the long-term integrity, security and care of NYU’s diverse collections and their storage environments. Collections materials include rare books and other print holdings, ephemera, and archival materials in a variety of formats including analog audio and moving image recordings, photographs, artworks, realia, and born-digital materials. While reporting within Special Collections, this position will work closely with the Preservation Department and Archival Collections Management (ACM) to ensure complete collections management care.
Required Education: Bachelor’s Degree
Preferred Education: Master’s Degree Master’s Degree in Library and Archive Conservation; Library Information Science from an ALA accredited institution; or in Archival Studies
Required Experience: 3+ years Minimum of three years’ experience in collections management, preferably in an academic or research library. Experience in the use of automated archival and bibliographic collections management and circulation systems, and familiarity with strategies for creating local tools and databases for collections management, as needed.
Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities: Demonstrated knowledge of preservation, conservation, and preventive conservation issues as they relate to archival collections and rare books. Excellent written and verbal communication skills; excellent interpersonal skills, demonstrated ability to work collegially within and across organizations; great attention to detail. Demonstrated ability to manage time and tasks and complete projects in a timely manner. Flexibility and the capacity to thrive in a rapidly changing environment. Ability to lift and move materials up to 30lbs, including individual boxes and to push heavy carts
