NYU Division of Libraries is seeking a Cataloging Specialist, Chinese, Japanese, & Korean who will be responsible for performing original and complex copy cataloging of materials in Chinese, Japanese, & Korean script.
Perform original and complex copy cataloging of materials in Chinese, Japanese, & Korean script. Analyze, develop, implement, and document processes and workflows related to Chinese, Japanese, & Korean script cataloging and bibliographic maintenance. Contribute to cooperative cataloging programs, such as NACO, SACO, and BIBCO. Assign, train, and review the work of processing assistants, students, and casuals. Troubleshoot and resolve processing problems. Monitor and evaluate the quality of vendor-supplied bibliographic records. Assist in implementing, maintaining and troubleshooting metadata processes. Serve as a resource for branch and consortium libraries including NYU global sites on matters related to cataloging specialization. In consultation with KARMS Department Heads, Supervisors, and Subject Librarians, assist with the development and implementation of KARMS metadata policies and procedures
Required Education: Bachelor’s Degree
Preferred Education: Master’s Degree Master’s degree in library and information studies or equivalent experience
Required Experience: 3+ years 3 years of performing unrevised original cataloging for materials in Chinese, Japanese, & Korean script in an academic library. Proven experience in workflow analysis, design, and documentation. Experience in training
Preferred Experience: Familiarity with Authority Control and Program for Cooperative Cataloging (NACO, SACO, and BIBCO)
Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities: Fluency in Chinese, Japanese, and/or Korean. Working knowledge of integrated library systems and the structure of online catalogs. Knowledge of cataloging standards (e.g. RDA, AACR2). Experience with MARC, LCSH, and LC Classification. Good organizational, time-management, and analytical skills. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Ability to work large and diverse staff of full-time and part-time employees.
Preferred Skills, Knowledge and Abilities: Knowledge of Ex Libris ILS systems Aleph and/or Alma. Working knowledge of OCLC Connexion interface, and data visualization software such as Tableau. Understanding of existing and emerging cataloging principles and metadata schemas
