Columbia University Libraries’ (CUL) Collections Acquisitions and Description Division (CAD) is now accepting applications for a full-time detail-oriented and motivated Bibliographic Assistant VI. The incumbent will be responsible for a range of duties including, but not limited to:
Processing time-sensitive, high priority and difficult-to-find orders for course reserves and patron requests;
Creating and placing orders, receiving ordered material, correspondence with internal technical services units and external vendors, entering invoices for payment, claiming and canceling of orders, cataloging foreign language materials and opening boxes of new receipts;
prioritizing, coding and assigning incoming general order requests to staff within the Order and Receiving Unit and monitoring this work during the entire lifecycle of the order, bibliographic editing of monographic materials, transfer of bibliographic records, creation of preliminary records, and the creation/maintenance of holdings and item records;
Performing other duties as assigned.
Schedule: Monday - Friday, 9 am - 5 pm
High School Diploma or equivalent
Working knowledge of two (2) non-English European languages.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Demonstrated ability to work independently.
Demonstrated ability to do detailed work accurately.
Ability to learn complex tasks quickly and complete them efficiently with limited supervision.
Ability to prioritize incoming work, organize effectively and perform tasks utilizing strong computer skills.
Ability to lift, pull, push, and carry up to 40 lbs.
** Language test will be administered on day of interview.**
Bachelor’s degree preferred.
Previous bibliographic experience and experience with machine-based cataloging preferred.
