The JCFPL is a comprehensive urban library offering all those who live, work and study in Jersey City a wide range of resources, services and programs that meet their informational, educational and entertainment needs. The JCFPL is the largest municipal library in the State of New Jersey with 10 locations and a bookmobile. Our staff of nearly 140 provides services in a wide range of languages including English, Spanish, Hindi, Gujarati, Arabic and Tagalog, among others.
About the Position
The JCFPL is seeking a bright, dynamic, outgoing, collaborative and entrepreneurial individual to design, develop, launch and manage a new program to foster systemic solutions to after-school program challenges and strengthen Jersey City’s after-school program ecosystem. Along with the Library Director, the Coordinator will work to establish the Library as both leader and convener of agencies providing after-school programming, by identifying and implementing sustainable solutions that enhance program offerings, participation and quality.
A successful candidate for this position is capable of operating effectively in a dynamic, fast-paced office; understands the power of team building internally and with cross-sector partners; and has a passion for after-school programs, particularly those supporting disadvantaged youth.
Specific Job Duties:
Cultivate existing relationships and develop new relationships with current and prospective stakeholders in schools, community-based organizations, business and industry, governmental agencies, industry partnerships, non-profit organizations and other partners to ensure the delivery of high-quality programs;
Conduct ongoing environmental scans of existing after-school programming available in Jersey City;
Develop the necessary systems, processes and tools to support the facilitation, collection and sharing of data and knowledge generated by after-school programs;
Facilitate the development of an after-school program plan that identifies and addresses the needs of students and the community;
Collaborate with stakeholders to create learning opportunities for students beyond the traditional school day;
Work to align activities in after-school programs with school curriculum;
Offer learning opportunities in after-school that are different from, but connected to, those in the school day;
Provide a continuum of services and supports for students (including homework assistance, enrichment, tutoring, extra-curricular clubs, service and civic development opportunities, mentoring, arts, technology, foreign language and healthy snacks);
Develop and implement formal and informal communication strategies between organizations providing after-school programming;
Develop a positive culture between program providers and mediate concerns when they arise;
Examine and communicate data to ensure that children most in need have access to after-school;
Work with the program partners to identify, generate and collect data to assess after-school programs;
Encourage the use of data and best practices to improve programs by fostering communication about results to teachers, program directors, after-school staff members and other stakeholders;
Use data and evaluation results to document program impact and make the case for quality after-school programs with school, community and political leaders;
Work with the Library’s Development Team to identify and communicate with potential program funders;
In conjunction with partners and the Library’s Communications Team, develop marketing plans for all programs. This will include leveraging personal contacts, and arranging for appropriate media marketing, advertising and publicity[SS1] .
· Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s degree. NOTE: Applicants who do not possess the required education may substitute additional experience as indicated below on a year-for-year basis with thirty (30) semester hour credits being equal to one (1) year of experience;
· Two (2) years managing educational programs;
· Two (2) years experience in partnership-building and joint program development/delivery/assessment; and
· Two (2) years of experience in planning, developing, and supervising events, educational, or social service programs.
· Knowledge of methods and techniques involved in developing community event programs in a community, agency, or facility.
· Ability to organize, develop, coordinate, and promote programs.
· Ability to utilize available media for dissemination and promotion of events.
· Availability to work occasional evenings and weekend shifts as required.
· Knowledge of Jersey City and/or local government.
· Facility in a non-English language spoken in Jersey City (such as Spanish, Hindi, Arabic, Gujarati, Tagalog).
This is a Civil Service Job and you must eventually pass and qualify for the applicable Civil Service title.
