Privacy Policy

The Metropolitan New York Library Council (METRO) is committed to protecting the privacy of all visitors to METRO's website. We will not sell, exchange, distribute, or otherwise disclose your personally identifiable information to external parties (other than information which is contained in the membership directory, which is shared with other members) without your consent unless required by law. The following statement defines policies instituted by METRO to protect your online privacy.

Personally Identifiable Information

In the course of using this website, you may choose to provide us with information to help us serve your needs or to participate in certain activities. If you do not wish to provide requested mandatory data for a particular activity, you will not be able to engage in that online function. However, you may still complete the transaction by contacting METRO directly.

Protection of Personally Identifiable Information

METRO maintains your personal information on a secure password-protected server accessible only to selected METRO staff members. METRO also requires user passwords as an element of security for certain online activities. It is the user's responsibility to secure passwords and not share this information. If you feel your password has been compromised, please call METRO to change your password immediately.

Monitoring of Browsing Behavior

METRO routinely collects and stores information from online visitors to help manage site traffic and improve service. This information includes the pages visited on the site, the date and time of the visit, the internet address (URL or IP address) of the referring site, the domain name and IP address from which the access occurred, the version of browser used, the capabilities of the browser, and search terms used on our search engines. This site does not identify individual visitors from this information: any personally identifiable information is not released to external parties without your consent unless required by law.

Links to External sites

Personally identifiable information that is collected on www.metro.org is maintained exclusively by METRO, except as described above. The site does, however, contain links to other websites where personal information may be collected. METRO is not responsible for the privacy practices of other websites. The collection and use of your personal information will be governed by the privacy policies of those sites. Additionally, METRO does not have control over these external sites and resources and is not responsible for their availability, content, or delivery of services.

Cookies

Cookies are pieces of information stored by your web browser and returned on request by the website. This site may use cookies for two purposes: to transmit data about your current session at the site from one web page to the next within the website, and to identify you on subsequent site visits. You may turn cookies off in your browser, or you may set your browser to ask you before accepting a new cookie. Some web pages make cookies mandatory and those pages will be inaccessible for those users who choose not to accept cookies.

Credit Cards and Security

Any credit card information you provide is completely secure and used only to complete a transaction. METRO does not retain credit card information. Portions of the site are authenticated by Verisign security services and are protected by high-level encryption.
