The Manager of Operations, Adult Learning Centers works as part of the BPL Adult Learning team to provide quality spaces, instructional services, and experiences to strengthen the educational attainment of communities in Brooklyn. The Manager of Operations, working collaboratively with the Director of Adult Learning and the Education and Training Manager, will be responsible for management and development of dynamic adult learning centers that provide a range of educational resources for beginning adult literacy and basic education students.  The Manager of Operations is responsible for prioritizing and implementing organizational and departmental strategic initiatives in collaboration with colleagues.  In addition, the Manager of Operations is responsible for developing effective operations and systems to enhance the educational performance, outcomes and competencies of program participants with a variety of adult learning, life, and employment goals. The Manager of Operations is also responsible for collection and resource development, program evaluation and reporting, website and online promotion, and continuous improvement of integrated programs and services.  The Manager of Operations, Adult Learning Centers reports to the Director of Adult Learning


Duties & Responsibilities

  • Plan, organize and supervise the operations of the five Adult Learning Centers
  • Oversee supervision, training and evaluation of staff in order to enhance leadership and supervisory competencies among site supervisors.
  • Project management: develop, pilot, implement, and manage new data systems and procedures to streamline learning center performance and outcomes
  • Build resource collections, including the new readers collections, technology and professional development resources
  • Assist with budget plans and priorities; promptly respond to requests for proposal and reports
  • Evaluate efficacy of learning center program offerings utilizing analysis, interpretation and synthesis of statistical data, as well as direct observation of operations and periodic review of learning center reports
  • Produce detailed reports to the Mayor’s Office of Adult Literacy of New York, and other city, state, federal, and private funding agencies as well as internal stakeholders
  • Participate in the grant proposal writing process and opportunities for municipal and private funding
  • Conduct ongoing reading and review of current research in the principles and practices in adult education, reading and writing instruction, educational policy, staff training and development,


Skills & Qualifications


  • BA/BS degree in education or related field
  • 3 years experience in adult education and supervision
  • Ability to communicate effectively (verbally and in writing); ability to present effectively
  • Experience supervising, training, motivating, developing, and managing people
  • Experience managing programs, building partnerships, and collaborating with partners
  • Operations management experience especially using data and information to drive decisions
  • Project management experience implementing programs independently and as part of a team
  • Excellent organizational and problem solving skills; ability to get things done consistently
  • Experience working on proposals, budgets, and reports; ability to use data to tell a story
  • Strong proficiency in the use of computers, information systems, and other advanced educational technologies including iPads & interactive whiteboards
  • Team building skills as well as experience working successfully on diverse teams
  • Experience with Salesforce or other database or customer relationship management systems a plus
  • Must be able to work occasional evenings and weekends
  • Some travel required
