Description

The Leo Baeck Institute, located at 15 West 16th Street New York, is seeking a part-time Library Assistant.

The Leo Baeck Institute is devoted to the history of German-speaking Jews.  Its 80,000-volume library and extensive archival and art collections represent the most significant repository of primary source material and scholarship on German-speaking Jewish communities.

 

Responsibilities

  • Shelving and shifting library materials
  • Paging books for the Reading Room
  • Creating and updating bibliographic, acquisitions and donations records in Aleph integrated library system
  • Physical processing of library materials (barcodes, labels, stamping, mylar enclosures, etc.)
  • Processing reproduction requests (photocopying and scanning library materials)
  • Additional projects in collection management, as needed

 

Qualifications

  • Fast learner
  • Flexible, detail oriented  and accurate
  • Ability to lift archival boxes

 

Preferred qualifications

  • Working knowledge of German or Hebrew
  • Experience working with Aleph integrated library system, OCLC Connexion, Aeon collection management software
