Description

The Office of Library Services (OLS) at the CUNY Central Office seeks a non-teaching adjunct Institutional Repository Assistant for part-time work during the Spring 2017 semester. OLS provides centralized services to all 31 CUNY Libraries supporting the University’s 24 campuses and 100+ research centers and institutes. OLS’s service portfolio includes the acquisition, licensing, and management of electronic, print and digital collections; technical services including cataloging and metadata management; as well as institutional repository management. OLS facilitates global discovery of and access to CUNY Libraries’ expansive collections and CUNY’s scholarly record.

Job Description:

The Institutional Repository Assistant will work closely with the Scholarly Communications Librarian and collaboratively with stakeholders across CUNY Libraries. The successful candidate will facilitate the submission of content to CUNY’s institutional repository, CUNY Academic Works, in accordance with established best practices and workflows.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Assists with evaluation of copyright and permissions status of materials identified for distribution in CUNY Academic Works
  • Communicates with content creators and copyright holders
  • Deposits digital objects to CUNY Academic Works
  • Participates in meetings and events as required
  • Consults with and reports to supervisor and appropriate staff members on tasks, processes, and outcomes
  • Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will have the following skills, knowledge, and abilities:

  • Master’s degree from an American Library Association (ALA)-accredited school is strongly preferred
  • Working knowledge of rights management and academic publishing practices
  • Familiarity with institutional repositories and digital asset management systems
  • Knowledge of one or more descriptive metadata standard (i.e. Dublin Core)
  • Detail oriented and accurate with strong organizational skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
