Health Sciences Librarian
Liaison to Northwell Health Eastern Region Hospitals
Provides reference and education services at assigned libraries via virtual as well as on-site consultations. Conducts expert literature searches to meet information needs. Provides instruction in the use of library services and resources and develops training materials. Collaborates in the planning and evaluation of library services. Coordinates with other library staff for document delivery and specialized services. Participates in the Library Services Collaborative Council. May train support staff and volunteers.
Provides liaison reference services for library users at assigned libraries of the health system via virtual technologies as well as on-site consultations.
Develops search strategies and conducts expert literature searches to locate journal articles and other types of literature to meet information needs and find the best evidence to support clinical care, education, patient safety, clinical research, and scholarly projects for GME programs.
Collaborates with nursing staff for support of Magnet status or the framework of Magnet in evidence based practice activities.
Provides instruction for groups, classes, or individuals on searching the literature, managing citations, and accessing library resources via virtual methods and on-site presentations. Develops and produces training materials, including web tutorials in collaboration with other library staff.
Collaborates with the Corporate Director of Library Services in planning and evaluating library services for the assigned libraries to facilitate a standard optimal level of services supporting the Northwell Health mission, JCAHO certification, ACGME requirements, and workload prioritization. Prepares statistical and narrative reports as requested.
Coordinates with other Northwell Health and School of Medicine library staff for additional library services including but not limited to: document delivery, the systematic review service, survey design, and collection development of electronic resources.
Participates in the Library Services Collaborative Council of Northwell Health and Hofstra Northwell School of Medicine Librarians as well as appropriate workgroups at the assigned hospitals.
May train library support staff or volunteers at assigned library sites.
Performs related duties, as required.
Required Experience and Qualifications:
Master’s Degree in Library Science, required.
Minimum of two (2) years library experience, preferably in a hospital or medical school setting, required.
Membership (or eligibility) in the Medical Library Association’s Academy of Health Information Professionals, preferred.
Demonstrates and maintains knowledge of content and formats of resources and experience in teaching library information literacy skills, required.
Excellent oral and written communication skills, required.

Position home office will be at the Hofstra Northwell School of Medicine, Hempstead, NY with site visits to the Northwell Health Eastern Region hospitals.
