Position Overview

The Nassau Library System (NLS) is seeking an administrator to lead and oversee the operations of a shared ILS, IT and cataloging services.  The ILS Manager, Technology/Network Manager, and Cataloging Services Manager will report to this position.  Collaboratively develop a shared vision and a plan for the use of technology with a focus on quality, performance, customer service, user experience and cost-effectiveness.  Facilitate the fulfillment of this vision and implementation of this plan.  

This new position is an exciting and challenging opportunity for a forward-thinking, proactive, high-performing professional with relevant and successful LIBRARY IT experience (including ILS).

Responsibilities Include

  • Developing a proposed annual budget for the services administered, in collaboration with the NLS Director and Business Manager as well as an ILS Advisory Council.
  • Negotiating and working effectively with technology and related applications vendors and advocating for NLS and member library needs and interests to: obtain and maintain contracts with favorable terms; optimize the timely and smooth updates of existing products/services and implementation of new products/services; monitor vendors’ performance and hold them accountable for fulfilling contract requirements.
  • Developing and maintaining professional, positive working relationships with member libraries and an ILS Advisory Council that is based on collaboration, responsiveness, and timely resolution of problems and issues.
  • Developing, mentoring and empowering staff.  
  • Creating and sustaining an environment in which teamwork, responsiveness to member libraries, a desire to continuously improve services & infrastructure, productivity, goal-oriented outcomes, and accountability are standards and the norm.
  • Implementing a system of measurement of inputs, outputs and outcomes to monitor our network and ILS and IT services.  Assessing the effectiveness and efficiency of our IT infrastructure.
  • Monitoring the ILS marketplace; researching and evaluating new and emerging technologies; recommending implementations appropriate, beneficial, and viable for our member libraries.
  • Engaging in appropriate regional, state and national dialogues and seeking beneficial collaborations. 


Full-time benefited position.

$120,000 (starting) to $140,000 (starting)

Job Requirements


At least 3 years of library system or library experience. [Public library system or public library experience preferred.]

Experience with Innovative Interfaces products and services including Sierra preferred.


Demonstrated planning, analytical, organizational, and problem solving skills.

Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.

The ability to work effectively in a collaborative and complex environment that can be challenging.

Computer Skills

An understanding of network architecture and network management.

Experience migrating a library's or library system's IT assets to the cloud.

Education Required

Education relevant to the responsibilities of this position.

An Information Technology, Library Technology, Computer Science, etc. degree preferred.

M.L.S. degree also preferred.
