The Darwin Manuscripts Project is an online, digital edition of Charles Darwin’s entire collection of scientific manuscripts. DMP is based at the Research Library of the American Museum of Natural History. The DMP research team performs the fundamental, hands on, editorial work that keeps the project moving forward productively. Part-time (20 hrs/wk, one year, renewable)
The Research Assistant will: transcribe Darwin’s handwritten manuscripts, mark up, edit, proofread, and correct transcriptions in xml code, maintain the project’s bibliography, and manage digital images for online presentation at the Darwin Manuscripts Project website (https://www.amnh.org/our-research/darwin-manuscripts-project)..)
Bacherlor’s degree in any field. Course work life sciences given priority. Graduate work in Library Science, Information Technology, History, any Science field desirable. Editorial, publishing, or computer background may be suitable.
Facility with software applications essential.
Meticulous attention to detail a must.
$12-25/ hr depending on qualifications
