CANCELLED: DPLA's 2nd Annual GIFITUP Competition: Join Us to Create Award-Winning Animated GIFs

***This event has been cancelled. Please contact us with any questions -- events@metro.org. ***

In just this calendar year, Empire State Digital Network added more than 131,000 records to Digital Public Library of America. This puts us in a great spot to showcase our fair state’s digital treasures by taking over the leaderboard in the 2nd annual GIFITUP competition!

Please join us at METRO on Thursday, November 5 to help us pick out and create GIF-worthy images to submit to GIFITUP, an annual competition organization by DPLA and DigitalNZ that highlights public domain material available via their respective search portals.

GIFITUP’s mission is to find the best GIFs reusing public domain and openly licensed digital video, images, text, etc from DPLA and DigitalNZ, and we think we can deliver! We’ll work in teams or as individuals to create GIFs from New York State.

METRO will supply Photoshop-enabled laptops with, and we’ll have a few GIF-worthy images selected beforehand. At the conclusion of the afternoon, we’ll let you know how to submit your polished GIFs to the competition.

Snacks will be served and we’ll head out for drinks afterward.

Looking forward to seeing you there!

Side note: if you’d like a primer on creating animated GIFs from still images and videos, check out Creating GIFs with Photoshop: A GIFITUP Tutorial Session on Tuesday, October 13.
