Full Description

If you’ve ever Googled your own name (or anyone else’s), you have a basic experience of “personal brand” online. But what impact does that have on your professional life and your career, and how can you make an online “brand” work to your advantage?

This webinar will start by outlining and clarifying the concepts of personal and professional brand. We’ll discuss professional brand in more depth, and look at how social tools like LinkedIn, blogs, Twitter, and other tools can help librarians and information professionals build a strong professional brand. Along the way, we’ll address questions such as:

  • What’s the difference between personal and professional branding?
  • What is “professional branding”, and why is it necessary for a career today?
  • How does the idea of “brand” translate to social tools?
  • What are ways that information professionals and librarians can use social tools to improve their professional brand?

Participants will come away with a strong understanding of the components of professional branding, how professional branding can work well online, and a strong base for planning a professional brand online. This webinar can be attended as a stand-alone offering, and also builds a strong foundation for the LinkedIn webinar offered later in the month.

A basic familiarity with online platforms such as LinkedIn, Twitter, and blogs is assumed; no in-depth experience or knowledge is necessary. In this session, we will not cover topics such as registering or using these tools.

This webinar is available to METRO and other NY3Rs members at a discounted fee of $10. Register here.
