Libraries provide essential services, and we have to think sustainably to ensure that libraries are around to meet the needs of our communities for many years to come. It is critical that we become good storytellers about our libraries, proactively and strategically conveying the message that they are good stewards of the public dollars and public trust that are invested in them.
By infusing the core value of sustainability--into every area of operations and planning, not just through facilities--library leaders can develop partnerships and messages that will positively impact our ability to meet current and future demands. Adopting and developing a sustainable thought pattern also results in fiscally-sound decisions and outcomes that benefit the people who work in our libraries, use our libraries, and live in our local and global communities.
During this two-hour workshop, participants will learn how to think sustainably about their own institutions. They will gain practical tips on how to infuse the value of sustainability into everyday operations and communications with stakeholders of all kinds.
Who Should Attend: Library leaders at every level of a library. Everyone can make a difference regardless of your position at your library.
By the end of this event participants will:
1) Understand the obstacles facing libraries to get the word out about our importance and value
2) Learn how to take a "whole systems approach" to leading their libraries into the future
3) Receive practical examples of how other libraries are thinking sustainably
