Just as with physical collections, a critical component of managing digital collections is the ability to monitor their integrity and authenticity throughout their lifecycle. With digital collections, a primary mechanism for performing this function is the generation and validation of checksums to ensure fixity. This hands-on class will guide participants through the use of multiple tools for generating and validating checksums, individually and in bulk. The course will cover both graphical user interface tools (Karen's Hasher) and command line tools. This will require attendees to be familiar with working in these environments and the basic principles of digital preservation.

This session is presented as part of METRO's Keeping Collections program. Consequently, payment will be required upon registration.
