Beyond the Tally Sheet: New and Alternative Ways to Assess Reference Services
Please join us on Friday, February 8 from 3:30 to 5:00 PM for the next meeting of the METRO Reference SIG. We will be discussing the assessment of virtual and in-person reference services, focusing on new and alternative methods such as chat transcript analysis, alternative statistics (e.g. the READ scale), and innovative measures of user experience.
We'll start with a basic overview of new and alternative assessment methods, including a handout with annotated references for more information. Then, Alexa Pearce (New York University) will give a presentation on her recent research involving new ways of assessing, characterizing, and visualizing virtual reference transactions, as captured by Ask-a-Librarian chat transcripts.
Please come prepared to share your own experiences with reference assessment, or what you would like to try to assess (e.g. scope, depth, accuracy, staff/user satisfaction), and why/how.
If you have any questions, please contact the SIG's co-conveners:
Margaret Smith, email@example.com, and (our new co-convener!) Jonathan Cain, firstname.lastname@example.org.
