Webinar: Collaborative Digitization Showcase - Local and Global Collaboration

Speaker Karen Cannell, Fashion Institute of Technology and John Mignault, New York Botanical Garden

Collaborative digitization projects are an important method of exposing library collections to a broader audience and meeting users' growing demand for online resources.  During this program, we will hear from colleagues at two METRO member libraries on their recent involvement with collaborative digitization projects on a local and global level.

Karen Cannell of the Fashion Institute of Technology will discuss her institution's collaboration with New York Public Library on the Andre Studios project. This partnership, funded in part by funds from a METRO collaborative digitization grant, was an effort to bring together and make accessible the fashion drawings and sketches in the NYPL and FIT collections that were produced by the New York-based Andre Studios in the 1930s and early 1940s.

We will also hear from John Mignault, Systems Librarian at the New York Botanical Garden, on NYBG's collaboration with the Biodiversity Heritage Library. The BHL is a consortium of natural history and botanical libraries that cooperate to digitize and make accessible the legacy literature of biodiversity held in their collections and to make that literature available for open access and responsible use as a part of a global “biodiversity commons.”
