Kimberly Burke Sweetman is head of Access Services at NYU’s Bobst Library. A nationally recognized writer, educator and conference speaker, Kimberly’s research interests focus on developing library managers to improve their effectiveness, a passion which has led her to become credentialed as an executive coach, working one on one with library managers. Kimberly is the author of the popular Managing Student Assistants and co-author of Access Services: Organization and Management (Association of Research Libraries), as well as numerous articles on customer service, assessment and resource sharing.

Cities, towns, colleges and universities increasingly require data and assessment to justify and evaluate programmatic changes.  Assessment is also required on most grant-funded projects.  Learn how to measure what counts!  This full day workshop covers the difference between, and strengths of, qualitative and quantitative data; various ways to gather data; how to run focus groups; how to plan effective surveys and how market research can help you to run your library.

By the end of this program, participants will be able to:
1.  Understand the history of context of library assessment
2.  Understand several of the common assessment methods and how to choose the best one(s) as dictated by the needs of your situation 
3.  Present data so it is meaningful to the specific context
